John Lalgee to B1 Meeting, 20/5/07
(From notes taken by Ben Thorne)
We can be faithless with the familiar, therefore God will often bring someone in from outside the familiar to see the wonder and marvel at what He’s doing. Those familiar with the place can miss it.
We gravitate towards the familiar but unless we’re changing we’re not going to effect change. We should be experiencing the most change in church where God is at work. The challenge for us all is to see what God wants to show us, to capture the word of God. God spoke to John and showed him that around the immediate focus of our attention, we have got to have peripheral vision.
Faith is not everything, vision and sight is not everything. Love is everything, love has to be at thevery centre of it. Without love, John would not be working with B1 still. Unless we get built up in love, B1 will fall apart. God wants to multiply love in this town. Love takes us beyond the boundaries of our likes and dislikes.
We will be willing to take on giants when we really believe, not just theoretically believe. Do we really believe the prophetic words spoken over Taunton?
John described two different types of unity – the Mall and the Department Store
The Mall – the church has shared a common roof and we have blessed others, but the church has been fiercely competitive. Stores in the Mall are just interested in their own success.
The Department Store – every department shares a common vision, every department contributes to the success or failure of the whole store.
Mark 10:17-22 – The Rich Young Man. This man did not lack passion, but passion alone won’t do it – passion has to turn to sacrifice.
2 Kings 13 – If there’s a lack of sincerity in our hearts, God will expose it. Jehoash was not whole-hearted, he was only half-hearted
Half measures will not accomplish the purposes of God Nothing has ever been done in the kingdom without cost and sacrifice
The words over us will never be accomplished in mediocrity.
The day of rediscovering the power of prayer has come.
